What is Original Medicare

Original Medicare is the basic federal health insurance program for those 65 and older, as well as some younger individuals with disabilities or ESRD. It consists of two parts: Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance). 
Part A helps with hospital costs, while Part B covers doctor's visits, outpatient care, and some preventive services. 
You can choose to add Part D for prescription drug coverage and may consider a Medigap policy to lower your out-of-pocket expenses. 

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance):
This part helps cover inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care (up to 100 days), some home health care, and hospice care

Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance):
This part helps pay for doctor's visits, outpatient care, diagnostic tests, and some preventive services.   

You can add Prescription Coverage... Its Optional and Not a Part Of Original Medicare

Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage):
This is a separate, optional part that helps cover the cost of prescription drugs. 

​ Key Features of Original Medicare:

• You can use any doctor or hospital in the U.S. that accepts Medicare patients . 

• You don't need to choose a primary care doctor or get referrals to see specialists . 

• You may need to pay a portion of the costs for covered services as you get them . 

• It covers a broad range of services, but it doesn't cover everything . For example, vision, dental, and hearing services are generally not covered. 

• You can add Part D for prescription drug coverage and/or Medigap to help lower your out-of-pocket costs .
