Medicare Part D: Overview of the Coverage Gap Discounts and Payments
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010 closes the coverage gap, also known as the donut hole, with discounts and plan payments on plan-covered, generic and brand-name drugs.
These discounts and payments continue to increase each year until 2020
when the coverage gap more closely resembles the Initial Coverage Period
of the Part D benefit and beneficiaries pay about 25% of plan-covered drug costs
