Medicare open enrollment starts today, with more #MedicareAdvantage & #PartD plan options on offer for 2021. Some see this as healthy marketplace competition. Others see a confusing array of options that can make it hard for beneficiaries to find the best plan to meet their needs. How many people do you know (besides people you know with Medicare) who have literally dozens of plan choices during their open enrollment period? By comparison, at KFF, we have two very distinct plan options, which makes it easy to understand how they differ. Not saying that two choices is the "right" number, but maybe something between 2 and 30+? Even with the Medicare plan finder, it's not easy navigating dozens of options to find the best one, especially for people who need to see a lot of doctors or fill a lot of prescriptions. Medicare's private plan market is a lucrative one for insurers and the Medicare population grows larger each year, making the market even more attractive.
